Jess Allen is the correspondent on the national daytime CTV show, The Social. Previously, she was a national columnist at Metro and an assistant editor covering the arts-the-culture beat at Maclean’s magazine. The variety of her work has given her the chance to interview notable people from Trevor Noah and Greta Gerwig to an archaeologist who recreates ancient beers and an award-winning translator of The Iliad. She received a Masters of Art in Art History from the University of Toronto and currently lives in Hamilton with her partner, Simon, and their cat, Thomas Bernhard II. She is currently working on a food memoir, which is about more than just food. (But also: it’s very much about food.)

Marci Ien's journey is one of resilience, courage, and impact. A familiar face to millions of Canadians, she made the bold leap from award-winning journalist to trailblazing politician — and she's never looked back.
In 2020, Marci was elected Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre under the Liberal Party, bringing her deep passion for justice, equality, and representation to the heart of Canadian politics. Soon after, she was appointed Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Youth, where she didn't just make promises — she delivered results.
As Minister, Marci launched Canada's first-ever 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan, a groundbreaking strategy to promote equality and support queer and trans communities nationwide. She also launched Canada's National Action Plan to End Gender-Based Violence, finally bringing federal coordination and investment to an issue that affects millions. Her work has helped shape a more inclusive Canada — and she's only just getting started.
Before entering politics, Marci had a long and successful career in journalism and broadcasting. She was a co-host of CTV's Canada AM, a nationally televised morning show that ran for over four decades and was known for its blend of news, lifestyle, and entertainment, often called Canada's version of the Today Show. Later, she became a co-host on The Social, a popular daytime talk show where she helped lead thoughtful and engaging conversations on current events, culture, and everyday life.
She's also the author of the acclaimed memoir Off Script, where she shares the ups, downs, and powerful life lessons that shaped her, both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
Recognized with numerous awards including the BBPA Harry Jerome Award for excellence and advocacy in the Black Canadian community, a Radio Television Digital News Association award and an Honorary Degree in Journalism from Humber College, Marci continues to be a beacon for those who dream of making a difference.
Today, she lives in Toronto with her two children, Blaize and Dash, and continues to use her voice — to push boundaries, challenge systems, and build a better future for all.
